LAUNCH: Thursday 24th January, 6pm – 8pm
Exhibition continues Friday 25th January - Saturday 9th March 2019
Terminal Velocity is an exhibition of new print work by HAM, created during a two month residency in the Out of the Blueprint riso studio.
Taking inspiration from airline safety cards, Terminal Velocity features a series of partially autobiographical comics, from departures to arrivals and everything in between. Humorous and heartfelt, this tongue in cheek project touches down on emotional baggage and disaster scenarios while poking fun at the ridiculousness of air travel.
“I’ve always found airplane safety cards strange. They are simultaneously fiction and non-fiction, depicting an idealised way a horrible incident would unfurl, all in a distinctly clinical manner. There’s something appealing yet unnerving about them.”
HAM takes a skewed look at this effect, imposing their own personal emotions and experiences on the format. The accompanying comic book, launched alongside the exhibition, has a series of these safety cards each telling a different musing or tale, all together building towards a narrative of internal discourse and growth.
Join us on Thursday 24th January for drinks, airline snacks and a brand new exhibition of riso-printed artwork. Don't miss this flight!
